Update June 2023
Greetings to all our Ranger Friends! It’s hard to believe that our last outing was in November 2019 and that by March 2020, Covid had taken over our lives and outings had to cease! We are hoping to revive Taney Rangers. If you are interested in participating in any future outings, please contact Tara at the Parish Office 298 5491 Any suggestions of places of interest or events would be much appreciated. Please phone before Monday 19th June.
Update December 2022
Well, it’s been a quiet time for Taney Rangers since the first lockdown but we will be back with some organised outings in 2023. Please keep an eye out for the weekly parish email for upcoming events. Happy Christmas to all!
AUTUMN OUTING 2019
We beat Santa to Rathwood! The Rangers set off on the morning of Saturday 9th November to Carlow for a Christmas outing to Rathwood. Buoyed up by refreshments on arrival, Christmas shopping was the aim! The climate was cold outside but there was plenty of cheer within. Christmas decorations galore, gifts, clothes, jewellery, shoes and plants were all under the one roof! There was a warm feeling of friendship and inclusion at lunch as the buzz of contented chatter prevailed. We enjoyed good portions of really tasty food. The desserts were so generous that a good number of doggy bags were being nursed on the bus! Thank you to the Rathwood staff who looked after us so well. We welcome Jasmin and Rosanna as new committee members and would like to wish you all a Happy Christmas and are looking forward to seeing you all again in the new year for our next outing. Please note that anyone is welcome to join us on the outings and we look forward to meeting new people in 2020.
SUMMER OUTING 2019
The Rangers outing took place on Wednesday 10th July to Ardgillan Castle. On arrival, we had a conducted tour of the Castle which was very informative but consensus of opinion it took too long!!! Afternoon tea was then served in the original dining room of the Castle which was delicious, and a sit down and a cup of tea was most welcome! Following this, we had a leisurely stroll in the rose and walled gardens surrounding the Castle. This was most enjoyable and the smell of the roses was a ‘wow factor’. In all a very pleasurable day was had by all!
AUTUMN OUTING 2018
Our pre-Christmas outing took place on Saturday 10th November. Leaving Taney car park early, we travelled by coach to the Arboretum in Leighlinbridge where on arrival we had tea/coffee and scones and two hours leisure time to browse and buy in all the magnificent shops under one roof. Judging by all the shopping bags brought onto our coach on departure, everyone made several purchases! Our next venue was The Lord Bagnall Inn where we had a delicious and leisurely lunch. On return to Taney all comments were very positive and everyone enjoyed their day.
SPRING OUTING TO MOUNT USHER GARDENS AND GLENVIEW HOTEL
For their summer outing the Taney Rangers headed off on the 26th of May to the beautiful Mount Usher Gardens in Wicklow with lunch in the Glenview Hotel afterwards.
TRIP TO RATHWOOD, TULLOW CO. CARLOW
Driving away from Dublin, the weather gradually improved until we arrived in Rathwood to a very pleasant dry day. We were shown into a private area just for us and enjoyed first class scones, tea and coffee. This set us up for browsing in the shops for anything from furniture, clothes, shoes, Christmas and garden accessories. At about 1.00 pm we were off on the train (open on one side giving us the benefit of the fresh air outside but with cover. We had a great laugh. We passed the deer and on through the woods to the lake, where the geese ran along beside the train hoping for some bread - unfortunately to be disappointed, as the driver had left it behind! We left Rathwood to go for lunch a short distance away in the Talbot Hotel, Carlow. The carvery and desserts were really delicious and we ended up with live music beside us from a wedding party. Eileen couldn’t resist the pull of the music and we thoroughly enjoyed watching her line dancing skills. Brilliant! The bus brought us back home (where the day had been miserable) and we were really glad we had gone further afield and been lucky enough to enjoy a lovely day with friends.
LUNCH IN HUNTER'S HOTEL RATHNEW - MARCH 2017
On Saturday 11th March, Taney Rangers had a wonderful day out in Co. Wicklow. The bus left the Parish Centre with a happy group on board and a very interesting driver. Eddie gave a running historical comment as he chauffeured the group through Dun Laoghaire, Seapoint and Dalkey. Our destination was Hunters Hotel where we enjoyed a beautiful lunch together. There wastime for a stroll in the garden, despite the inclement weather. Those who preferred to stay indoors had the luxury of a log fire and cosy surroundings for a good chat before we left. We were safely returned to Taney Parish Centre at 5.00pm.
CHRISTMAS LUNCH 2016
We enjoyed a delicious Christmas lunch, carol singing, entertainment and lots of fun on Saturday 17th December.
AUTUMN OUTING 2016
Our autumn outing took place on Saturday 5th November. We met at Taney car park and set off by coach to Leighinbridge Indoor Garden Centre. On arrival, we tucked into tea, coffee and scones. We then had one and half hours to browse around the many shops eg. Edinburgh Woollen Mills, kitchen utensils, furniture and Christmas shops. A LOT of purchases took place!! We had a late lunch at the Salmon Leap Restaurant in Leixlip, where a delicious meal was served by helpful and friendly staff. At the end of the day we were homeward bound once again and very pleased with the whole experience!
SUMMER OUTING 2016
SPRING OUTING 2016
On 16th April the Rangers took a trip to Kilkenny, stopping en route for coffee. A tour of the city in the ‘Little Train’ was organised before lunch in Langton’s. In the afternoon there was free time to explore the castle and the craft shops.
CHRISTMAS PARTY 2015
The Taney Rangers Christmas party took place on Friday 11th December 2015 starting with “Christmas with the Dublin Voices” in the Field Room, NCH and followed by Christmas Lunch in the Dropping Well Milltown.
AUTUMN OUTING 2015
The autumn outing of the Taney Rangers took place on Tuesday, 20th October 2015, to the new Lexicon Library and Maritime Museum in Dun Laoghaire with lunch at the Royal Marine Hotel.
The summer outing on 18th July 2015 was to Carlingford. We left early and stopped at the D Hotel in Drogheda for coffee and scones and feeling refreshed we continued on our way to Carlingford. There we had lunch at the Four Seasons Hotel, and despite some delay due to a wedding reception, lunch was a social occasion and enjoyed by all. Afterwards we went to Martin’s Distillery for a guided tour and whiskey tasting. This was greatly enjoyed by some enthusiastic tasters!! We were then homeward bound after another enjoyable day out. Our thanks to those who have supported our outings during the past year. We hope to have some new faces in our midst in future – all are welcome to join us.
