Scouts (12-15 years) and Ventures (15 – 18 years) meet on Friday nights in Taney Parish Hall from 8.00pm – 10.00pm
and participate in a range of outdoor activities including camping, kayaking, hiking, pioneering, rock climbing, raft building and mountain biking at different times throughout the year.
The Scout troop has had another busy year since we
started in September 2018. We started the Autumn
with a couple of night hikes along parts of the Wicklow Way and enjoyed a great experience at the Trinity College climbing wall. The Scouts endured a survival weekend and spent 24 hours sleeping in shelters in the Saggart Woods. The highlight of the Scouts year so far was the May bank holiday weekend where two teams entered a county competition in Larch Hill. Our teams competed against 10 other teams and demonstrated their scouting skills of pioneering, camp craft and cooking. We plan to end the year on a high by taking our scouts to Carlingford adventure centre over the June Bank holiday where they will be participating in activities including hiking, kayaking and climbing.
Scouts is a great opportunity for 11 – 15 year-old boys and girls to come together and learn new skills of teamwork, leadership and life skills. We always welcome new young people to our troop so please contact our Group Scout leader for more information. To enable us to give our scouts these new skills, we need more adult leaders as we are currently short of leaders. If you have a spare couple of hours on a Friday, this is a great opportunity to make friends and learn new outdoor skills.
